A Civility Crisis & Hope

It’s tough these days to spark “small-talk” without acknowledging the noise around us. Mass deportations, immigration raids, rising conflict in the Middle East - and why is everyone obsessed with Labubus?

This quarter I found inspiration with the women of IWF Nevada. As a recipient of the coveted Founder’s Award, I got to attend the International Women Forum’s 2025 World Leadership Conference in Seattle. On stage we heard insights from the Vice Governor of Japan, global philanthropists from South Africa, and the former leader of the Hong Kong Housing Authority. The line up was impressive and the conversations eye-opening. Experts on stage revealed we are facing a civility crisis and a high level of grievance toward government, business, and the rich, around the world. How can we create spaces where disagreement doesn’t lead to hostility? Harvard professor and best-selling author Dr. Arthur Brooks says “love your enemies”. According to Brooks, happiness and gratification comes when we choose to love one another – gaining strength from our differences.

In June, I also celebrated my 40th birthday. Following Dr. Brooks’ lead, I begin a new decade with optimism and a theme of love and respect for one another. Thank you to the women of IWF Nevada for bringing us together and providing outstanding leadership opportunities in our community.

Did you know, the arts and cultural sector generates nearly $12 billion in economic activity for Nevada? This represents just over 5% of the state’s GDP, contributing to 46,761 jobs. A BIG shout out and thank you to the Nevada Arts Council, for inviting us to participate in this year’s BRX 2025 in Ely. This gathering was an opportunity for artists, community leaders, and entrepreneurs to cultivate connections with Nevadans from across the state. Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas

Cordova Creative is now a member of the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas. Their mission: to build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter. Habitat Las Vegas builds homes and provides financing to make affordable homeownership possible for families. The average Habitat homeowner mortgage payment is $469! The organization also runs the Habitat ReStore - a retail store selling new and gently used furniture and home goods.
